Sigríður Benediktsdóttir, Director of Financial Stability, to leave the Central Bank

Sigrídur Benediktsdóttir

Sigríður Benediktsdóttir, Director of the Central Bank of Iceland’s Financial Stability Department, will leave the Bank’s employ on 1 October 2016 and begin a research and teaching position as Senior Fellow at Yale University in the United States. Sigríður worked for Yale from 2007-2012, albeit with a hiatus in 2009-2010, when she was appointed to the Parliamentary Special Investigation Commission on the prelude to and aftermath of the 2008 banking collapse.

She joined the Central Bank on 1 January 2012 as Director of the Financial Stability Department, whose main tasks centre on analysis and assessment of financial system risk and financial stability, as well as participation in the formulation of prudential rules for the financial system. She has also been a member of the Danish Systemic Risk Council since the beginning of 2013.

Sigríður joined the Central Bank at a time when a new regulatory framework for financial activities and a new framework for monitoring financial system risk were being developed and implemented.
On this occasion, Governor Már Guðmundsson wishes to emphasise that Sigríður contributed greatly to this work, which benefited significantly from her experience and expertise.

The position of Director of Financial Stability with the Central Bank will be advertised in the near future.

Further information can be obtained from Már Guðmundsson, Governor of the Central Bank of Iceland, at tel: +354 569-9600.
