The Central Bank of Iceland draws attention to a press release published today on EIOPA's website.
The EIOPA press release contains information in the form of questions and answers for NOVIS customers about the company's status, as its license was revoked by the National Bank of Slovakia in June 2023. EIOPA draws NOVIS customers' attention to the potential risks of continuing premium payments to the company and the implications of a possible liquidation of the company. The National Bank of Slovakia has had limited supervisory powers over NOVIS since the license revocation.
As a result, there is no reliable information about NOVIS's financial status. Therefore, the Central Bank of Iceland cannot confirm that NOVIS's financial position is sufficiently secure to recommend that policyholders continue making premium payments to the company.
Among the distributors who have sold NOVIS products domestically is the insurance brokerage Tryggingar og ráðgjöf ehf. In light of publicly available information, either in the Slovak company register, on NOVIS's website, or in the annual accounts register, the Central Bank considers it appropriate to state that the company TRBO ehf. has held around 4% stake in NOVIS since 2018 and at least until 2022, cf. the company's latest annual statement. The owners of Tryggingar og ráðgjöf ehf., who are also either current or former board members or executives of the company, are owners of TRBO ehf. through indirect ownership according to the latest available financial statement for the latter company for 2022. Additionally, a board member of Tryggingar og ráðgjöf ehf. has been on the Supervisory Board of NOVIS since 2022.
The Central Bank otherwise refers to the bank's information page on the revocation of NOVIS's license and previous press releases on NOVIS's affairs:
