Financial Accounts of Financial Corporations Q1/2023

Total financial assets of the financial institutions stood at 19,505.1 b.kr., at the end of 1st quarter of 2023, an increase of 420.8 b.kr. from the last quarter. The main changes between quarters are that loans increased by 210.5 b.kr and shares and other equity increased by 141.1 b.kr. Total liabilities of financial corporations amounted to 19,675.8 b.kr and increased by 420.7 b.kr. in the quarter. The main changes are an increase in insurance technical reserves by 177.4 b.kr. net financial liabilities amounted to 170.7 b.kr. at the end of 1st quarter of 2023.

Households’ loans from Financial Corporations at the end of 1st quarter of 2023 stood at 3,013.7 b.kr. thereof 2,457.4 b.kr. in mortgage loans. Non-financial corporations’ loans from Financial Corporations stood at 2,371.7 b.kr. Non-financial Corporations’ securities owned by Financial Corporations stood at 477.4 b.kr. at the end of 1st quarter of 2023.

The financial accounts are published as a total balance sheet for financial corporations but also by sectors and counter parties.
Time series are published for all financial corporations and also by sectors. The time series for non-financial corporations´ debt to financial corporations show the debts classified by type of lenders and by type of loans. It also includes non-financial corporations´ securities owned by financial corporations. The time series for household debts show the debts classified by lenders and by type of loans. It also includes mortgage loans classified by type.
The financial accounts are published according to the European System of Accounts (ESA2010) and The International Monetary Fund´s standard for monetary and financial statistics.
