Changes in senior management positions at the Central Bank of Iceland

Changes have been at the senior management level in the Central Bank of Iceland. Sturla Pálsson, who has served as Director of the Markets Department for the past 20 years, will be Head of the Bank’s Resolution Authority. Haukur C. Benediktsson, who has been Director of the Financial Stability Department, will be acting Director of the Markets Department, and Flóki Halldórsson, who has served as Head of the Resolution Authority, will be Acting Director of the Financial Stability Department.

Sturla Pálsson has been employed by the Central Bank since 2001. Before then, he worked at Íslandsbanki and Statistics Iceland, and before then he was employed by the Central Bank. In 2005 he was appointed Director of the Bank’s Markets Department, where he has served until now. Sturla was a member of the board of the Central Bank of Iceland Holding Company (ESÍ) for a period of time. He has a B.Sc. in Economics from the University of Iceland and a Masters degree in Investment Management from Reykjavík University.

Haukur C. Benediktsson was first employed by the Bank from 2001 to 2006 and then returned in January 2009. He served as managing director of the Central Bank of Iceland Holding Company (ESÍ) from January 2013 until the company was wound up in February 2019. In recent years, he served as Director of the Central Bank’s Financial Stability Department. Haukur has a B.Sc. in Economics from the University of Iceland and an M.Sc. in Finance and Economics from London School of Economics.

Flóki Halldórsson has worked in the Icelandic financial markets and at the Central Bank of Iceland for some 25 years. For the past five years, he has served as Head of the Central Bank’s Resolution Authority. Before he joined the Central Bank, he was director of the fund management company Stefnir for about 10 years. Flóki has an Executive MBA from Copenhagen Business School and received an undergraduate degree in Economics from the University of Iceland.
