NOTE: This article is from 09. April 2010 and is therefore more than 5 years old.

A seminar entitled: „How has the position of Icelandic households changed in the last couple of years and what can debt restructuring measures achieve?” will be held at 13:30 on Friday 9 April 2010 in Sölvhóll, the Central Bank‘s conference room.

The seminar will be led by Karen Á. Vignisdóttir and Þorvarður Tjörvi Ólafsson, economists at the Central Bank of Iceland.

Summary: In the seminar further results of the Central Bank‘s analysis of the position of Icelandic households following the banking collapse will be presented. An assessment will be made of how the ability of households to service their debt as well as pay for necessary living expenses has developed in the past two years. The possible effects of various debt restructuring measures on households’ debt service capacity, their equity position and the number of households in payment difficulties will be evaluated. Results will be shown for different groups, for example according to family types, the currency composition of loans and the age of the borrowers.
