Policy rate decision

The next policy rate decision by the Central Bank of Iceland Monetary Policy Committee is scheduled for June 4, 2009.

The Monetary Policy Commitee's decision on the Central Bank policy interest rate will be published Thursday, June 4, 2009, at 9:00 a.m. GMT. At 11:00 a.m., the Bank will present the rationale for the decision in a webcast.

According to Act no. 5/2009 amending the Act on the Central Bank of Iceland, no. 36/2001, decisions on applying the Central Bank’s monetary policy instruments shall be taken by the Monetary Policy Committee. The Bank’s monetary policy instruments include decisions on interest rates, certain transactions with credit institutions, decisions on reserve requirements, and foreign exchange market transactions. Decisions by the Monetary Policy Committee must be based on the Bank’s objectives and a thorough assessment of both the current economic situation and the outlook for the economy, monetary issues, and financial stability.
