Presentation on balance sheet vulnerabilities and debt restructuring in the aftermath of the financial crisis in Iceland

Tjörvi Ólafsson, economist at the Central Bank of Iceland, gave a presentation at the annual meeting of economists from the Nordic central banks, which was held in Reykjavik on September 28-29. The presentation was titled “Balance sheet vulnerabilities and debt restructuring in the aftermath of financial crisis: The case of Icelandic households”.

In the presentation, Mr. Ólafsson discussed the special characteristics of the financial crisis in Iceland and compared the indebtedness of Icelandic households to other crisis countries. He also presented the Central Bank’s analysis of the household sector and the main results of that work. Finally, he talked about the importance of debt restructuring.
